3. To avoid getting lost …

Toledo is famous for its labyrinthine streets, where even Toledans can get lost easily; that’s why it is good idea to have a city map in your hand at all times.  You can ask for one where you are staying or at any of the Tourist Offices, such as the House of Maps on Zocodover Square.

4. The Old Town of Toledo, pedestrian area

If you come by car, you should be aware that most of the Old Town is a pedestrian area, so you cannot access several streets with your vehicle.  These streets are only open to residents.  There isn’t much public parking inside the city walls, most space is allocated to O.R.A. (parking meters) or is exclusively for residents.  Besides, some Toledo streets can surprise you by suddenly becoming very narrow and trapping your car.

But don’t despair!  There are several alternatives if you come to Toledo in your car.  There are a few private parking lots in the Old Town, where you can leave your vehicle for approximately 13-16 euros a day.  You can also find free parking lots like the one across from the Bus Station.  From there you can reach the Old Town by taking a walk to the escalator.

If you are coming with luggage, we recommend you ask your hotel beforehand for information about accessing, since it is possible to gain access to the hotel in order to leave suitcases and avoid a walk carrying your luggage.

5. Toledo during its “Great Days”

Toledo has two major holiday periods: Easter Week and Corpus Christi.  If you want to see the city in its best dress, undoubtedly these are the best times, but at the same time the most crowded.  Therefore, make your reservations for lodging, tours and activities as far ahead as possible.
